An Exciting Weekend for East Ferry Rowing Club
The first weekend in May saw East Ferry Rowing Clubs participation in quite a number of events.
1. Irish Coastal Rowing Federation (I.C.R.F.) Annual General Meeting
The club would like to express a huge congratulations to our own Kate Deady and Rushbrooke's Ted McSweeney on their election to the I.C.R.F. committee. Kate will hold the position of assistant secretary and Ted will hold the position of safety officer for the upcoming year. The club would like to wish the new committee all the best for the upcoming season and are looking forward to another exciting All-Ireland Coastal Rowing Championship in Ballyshannon, Donegal ! ''All Boats Ready'' !
2. Danny's Row for Maymount Hospice
The club's own celebrity Danny Scanlon has completed a 21.17 Km row in a 3 man currach from Crosshaven all the way to the Port of Cork in aid of Marymount Hospice in Cork. The event received a lot of attention, it is a massive undertaking for one man to accomplish, and vital funds raised - Well done Danny !
3. Bluelight Regatta 2017
Whitegate Rowing Club held an another successful Blue Light Regatta last Sunday. The event saw host to many local businesses, motor factors and emergency services take part in regattas throughout the day. Funds raised are shared equally between East Cork Rapid Response and Whitegate Rowing Club.
East Ferry's Adam Mahony and Ryan Kruschel rowed with newbies Richard Dowling and Kelvin Kruschel representing East Ferry Farm (our main sponsor) in the business competitive category. After an intense heat and final coxed by Benny Deady the team secured GOLD !
The St Colman's Secondary School's rowing team had East Ferry's Kelvin Hickey and Deni O' Donovan rowing alongside newbie Conor O' Donovan and Whitegate's Matthew Cleary, coxed by Andrea Sheppard. The team secured Gold in the Senior Schools category !
East Ferry Rowing club would like to congratulate all who took part and to thank Whitegate Rowing Club for a well organised and run event. We hope to be back next year !
